How-to videos
Simple hair ideas you can try at home, with the steps written out too.
Halloween ghost hair-up
A really nice, simple hair-up for Halloween, great for kids dressing up as a ghost.
What you need
- An ankle sock, fresh and white
- Eyes and a mouth cut from sticky-back black foam
- Hair pins and grips
- A hair band
- Some net
- Fairy lights
Steps
- Tie the hair into a ponytail. Wrap it round to the end, make a bun and grip it in place.
- Take the sock and place it around the bun. The elastic holds it, so there’s no need to secure it.
- Stick the eyes and mouth onto the sock.
- Place the netting over the hair and secure it round the ghost’s face with a hair band.
- Add the fairy lights, then switch them on to see where they sit.
- Fluff the netting so it looks ghostly from the back, and check it sits nicely from the front too.
Halloween spider hair-up
A spider bun with a little glitter. Halloween hair for beginners.
What you need
- A pair of black tights
- Googly eyes
- Four black pipe cleaners
- A hairbrush and some grips
- Hair gel and glitter
- A small makeup brush
- Some cobwebs, if you want to make it extra spooky
Steps
- Put the hair in a ponytail. It doesn’t matter if it’s dirty: the dirtier the better, because it holds back nice and sleek.
- Wrap the ponytail around the hairband to make a bun, and put in a few grips. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bit messy.
- Cut the foot off the tights, just large enough to fit around the bun. This makes the spider’s body.
- Put on the googly eyes.
- Wrap the pipe cleaners round from the bottom, either side, then bend them so they look more like legs.
- Put some hair gel into a pot and add glitter. Dab it around on the spider with a small makeup brush.
- If you want a little glitter in the hair, run some trails down through it.
- To finish, put a small cobweb around the spider.
